Amazon.com Product Description Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air. The First Alert GCO1CN combination explosive gas and carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. It also detects natural gas, methane gas, and propane gas. Installation is as simple as plugging it in to any wall outlet or mounting it above an outlet and plugging in the higher line cord. Its easy-to-read large digital display gives you a clear readout of current hazard and levels. A peak level button alerts you to the highest level of explosive gas or carbon monoxide detected. The alarm includes a battery back-up giving you peace of mind in a power outage. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The unit monitors and alarms if carbon monoxide or explosive gas levels persist sounding a loud 85-decibel horn. A low battery signal alerts you to replace the 9-volt battery (included). UL listed. --Bree Norlander What's in the Box One combination carbon monoxide and explosive gas alarm, one 9-volt battery, and user's manual

Good protection! December 27, 2007 Steve Spence (Winthrop, NY United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
We live offgrid, and use propane for cooking, refrigeration, water heating, clothes drying, and generator. We had a propane leak, and this unit notified us before we could smell it. It also notified us of a CO2 issue when the generator vent was closed off. Well worth the money. Can't put a price on your families life!
Works GREAT and has battery backup May 17, 2008 Stanley Kuzak (Pgh. PA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Better safe than sorry. Best price I could find anywhere including
on e-Bay. We have all gas appliances, furnace, hot water tank, and clothes dryer so have one in the washroom/furnace room and another in the kitchen.
Had a Kidde brand before I bought the First Alert and it was constantly going off with false detections which I had verified by my gas company.
Both of the First Alerts work just fine.
Sense of protection February 3, 2010 P. K. Jhawar (UTAH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had installed it in the basement about 20ft away from the gas heating furnace. It was installed about a month ago I have had no false alarm so far. Smoke and Co alarm in that area gives me a great sense of protection.

Dual protection in a single convenient module January 2, 2008 Sam Pennywise (North Texas, USA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Virtually 80% of my home heating comes from burning firewood in an airtight stove. Wood burns slowly in this stove, easily producing CO that can leak into the air as the fire dies down. I heat water using a propane-powered tankless heater which has the potential to leak LP and to emit CO. This detector placed low outside my sleeping area takes care of both problems--the LP gas which, due to the addition of odorants (as reqired by law), can be smelled and the CO which cannot be smelled (or, for that matter, detected by ANY human sense). Get a smoke detector too! This unit is NOT designed to detect smoke.
Great Product! August 9, 2010 John T Simple and easy to set up. Simply plug in and you are protedted. Test button helps make sure the product can be heard throughout the home.
