Amazon.com Product Description The BRK hardwire smoke alarm with photoelectric sensor and escape light is designed to reduce common "nuisance" alarms and light a path to safety. It's an excellent choice for installations in or near kitchens, family rooms, or in hallways directly outside bathrooms and bedrooms. The 7020B AC-powered smoke alarm includes these features: - Photoelectric sensor which is more effective at detecting smoldering fires which smolder for hours before bursting into flame.
- 120-volt VAC inter-connectable (with maximum 18 compatible devices). The alarm can be interconnected with up to 12 other compatible smoke alarms and six compatible devices like bells, horns, repeaters and door closers. If one unit triggers an alarm, all smoke alarms in the series will sound. Power indicators show which unit in the series initiated the alarm.
- Escape light to help illuminate a path to safety.
- Automatically performs internal test of functionality.
- Quick connect pig tails for easy installation.
- 9-volt battery backup for peace of mind during power malfunction.
- Universal mounting bracket with screw slots.
- Optipath 360 technology allows 360-degree access to the layer of air on the ceiling or wall that carries the fire signatures (smoke, combustion particles and volatile components).
- Single test/silence button which both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality.
- Low battery indication to alert you to change the backup battery.
- 10-year limited warranty.
All BRK Electronics smoke alarms meet UL 217 standard and are listed with the California State Fire Marshal. They use the new UL mandated repeating 85-decibel alarm horn pattern. 10-year limited warranty.--Bree NorlanderWhat's in the Box One smoke alarm, one 9-volt battery, and user's manual.

smoke detector rememdy March 18, 2009 Jack of all trades (Parkland, FL USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
For years I had the BRK model 86RAC smoke detectors that were always churping, especially at night. I finally replaced them with the BRK 7020B. Very easy installation - the plugin attachment was perfect. These even came with a DC/AC escape light if a fire shuts down electrical service. I recommend this item for anyone needing to replace their smoke detectors.
Perfect for retrofit December 28, 2008 Marshmallow Man (Central Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought 3 to replace old First Alert detectors in our house, built 1992. They were compatible with the wiring connectors and everything works as expected. Only thing we needed to change were the mounting flanges. Easy. The light feature is very desirable and the silence feature makes this a no-brainer purchase. We recommend these to everyone now.
Great for Kitchens December 12, 2009 Stephen I. Early (Landenberg, PA) I bought this to replace an older unit that was in a kitchen and would false trigger almost every time we cooked dinner. The technology in this unit, according to Consumer Reports, is best for that type of application. We have not had a false alarm since installing it.
Retrofit with minimal chirps April 21, 2009 bigrig 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We replaced our old detectors with five of these. We had some random chirps after the installation, but that seems to have stopped after a few months now.
Works as expected November 5, 2009 Smart Shopper (Austin, TX) No fault alarm since installation (3 weeks). The unit does not come with screws for the mounting plate so keep the old screws if you are replacing the old mounting plate.
